I just learned that on Monday, 23 July 2012, Sally Ride, America’s first woman astronaut, died of pancreatic cancer. She was an example of achievement for all of us. Presently, America is not living up to the mark she set. We’re hitchhiking on Russian ships and yammering about costs, rather than getting up and going.
Sally Ride, you inspired a nation, and it’s time that we lived up to what you showed us again.

I hope that your sincere admiration and acknowledgment of her contribution does not change, in light of the knowledge that she was living as a Lesbian for the last 27 years.
I just found out about that, too, but to me, it’s irrelevant. Her personal life is just that–personal and none of my business. I am glad that she found love for decades.
